Serio’s Six Goals Leads Men’s Lacrosse to First CAC Victory

ARLINGTON, Va. – Junior attack Ryan Serio scored a team season-high six goals as the Frostburg men’s lacrosse team earned its first Capital Athletic Conference victory with a 12-6 win over Marymount, Saturday afternoon.

Box Score

In the crucial CAC win, FSU improves to an overall record of 9-5 and 1-3 in the CAC while Marymount falls to a 7-5 record and 0-4 in the CAC.

Neither team could edge an advantage in the first half as the game was knotted at 3-3. The Bobcats then shut out the Saints 5-0 in the third quarter to provide a large enough cushion that MU couldn’t overcome.

Serio netted the first goal of the run at 7:33 in the third off a dish from sophomore Devin Colegrove to put the score at 6-5 in favor of the visitors. Colegrove found his teammates three more times during the contest to raise his season assist total to 23, placing him second in the CAC assist leaderboard.

Just 19 seconds later, the Bobcats struck again as freshman Spenser Love seared one past the Saint’s goalie from an assist by junior Andy Luhmann for a 7-5 advantage.

The Serio and Love duo didn’t ease up as Serio scored back-to-back goals while Love closed out the third quarter with one more to put the Bobcats up 10-5.

The Bobcats allowed the Saints to put a score on the board in the beginning of the fourth, but Love and Serio both found the net one more time to post the final score at 12-6.

Serio finished with six goals, one assist, two ground balls and one caused turnover. Love completed a hat trick and caused one turnover. Colegrove filled up the stat sheet with one goal, four assists and four ground balls. Sophomore Chris Rios also contributed two goals.

Senior goalie Tyler Haines earned a win in the net after collecting 11 saves.

The Saints were led by Jack Burke who put up two goals and two assists.

FSU continues CAC action as it hosts Mary Washington on Wednesday, April 17 for a 6:00 pm contest.
