Bobcats Lose 8-7 To Elizabethtown

FROSTBURG, Md. – Elizabethtown used a late third-quarter surge to earn a slim 8-7 victory over Frostburg State in non-conference men’s lacrosse action, Wednesday.

With the contest knotted at 4-4, the Blue Jays (3-0) scored two goals in the third and one early in the fourth to grab a 7-4 lead. Their run came on the heels of a 3-0 FSU run that covered the second and third quarters that allowed the hosts to tie the game at 4-4.

The freshman duo of Nick Stailey and Spenser Love scored back-to-back goals to bring the Bobcats to within one, 7-6, with 6:31 to play in the fourth quarter.

Elizabethtown’s Cory Boushell answered moments later. He calmly completed a clear for the Blue Jays and 16 seconds later, buried a shot in the back of the net that handed the visitors an 8-6 advantage.

Junior Devon Stailey scored with just three seconds left in the final quarter as time ran out for FSU.

Offensively, Love scored three goals to lead the Bobcats. Nick Stailey and sophomore Devin Colegrove each added a goal and an assist. Junior Billy Lark won 12-of-18 (66.6%) faceoffs, his fourth game this season at better than 60 percent. Junior keeper Tyler Haines stopped 12 shots and picked up a team best seven ground balls in the loss.

Frostburg State held 39-26 and 53-47 leads in both shots and ground balls, respectively, and the Bobcats won 12-of-18 faceoffs.

Boushell led the Blue Jays with two goals and one assist. Craig Hunsberger and Steve Nutting each scored two goals, one each during the crucial 3-0 run that handed EC the 7-4 lead. Chris Wenger made 14 saves in the win.

Frostburg returns to action on Sunday when it travels to Christopher Newport at 1:00 pm.
