Women’s Hoops Falls In Regular Season Finale

YORK, Pa. – York (Pa.) powered its way to a 83-44 win over visiting Frostburg State in the regular season for both schools, Saturday afternoon.

FSU (6-19, 3-9 CAC) kept it close for much of the first half and led 12-10 after junior Elaina Hummel drained a three-pointer at 13:39. York answered with a three-pointer of its own less than a minute later for a 13-12 edge, a lead it would never relinquish.

Bobcat freshman Brionna Hall hit a jumper off a pass from senior Steph Straka at 4:30 as the visitors trailed just 26-19.

However, the Spartans (19-6, 8-4) closed out the first half with an 18-4 run for a commanding 44-23 lead at the break.

YCP used the entire second half to slowly pull away from the Bobcats. At 16:36, York’s Kristen Haley made a layup to push the lead to 50-25. Moments later, York collected a quick 10-0 spurt for a 67-31 lead with just under 10 minutes to play in regulation. With 2:36 showing, York’s lead swelled to 81-41 behind a jumper from Alia Smith.

York had four players in double figures. Brittany Hicks led with 20 points and 16 rebounds, while Kailee Knight added 14 points and 11 rebounds. Aja Wallpher handed out 17 assists.

Senior Brynn Arnone led the Bobcats in scoring with 14 points, the only player in double figures. Sophomore Ronje’ James contributed nine points and seven rebounds.

The two schools will face one another again this coming Tuesday evening in the first round of the CAC Tournament. A full tournament preview will be available Sunday afternoon.
