SALEM, Va. – Frostburg State junior James Peters scored a career-high 30 points, but Roanoke pulled away late in the game for an 82-74 non-conference victory, Monday afternoon.

FSU falls to 0-9 on the season and closed out the 2013 portion of its schedule. The Maroons evened their record at 4-4.
Despite the loss, the Bobcats didn't make it easy for Roanoke down the stretch in the second half. The hosts led by as many as 15 points, 60-45, midway through the second.
However, Frostburg collected a 17-4 run behind 10 points from Peters to draw within two, 64-62 with just 6:42 left in regulation. Peters hit back-to-back three-pointers to cap the scoring outburst. Just under a minute later, senior Aaron Bellamy found junior Tyler Campbell for a layup as FSU again trailed by just two, 66-64.
With 3:32 to play, Peters made a layup of his own to pull Frostburg to within three, 71-68. From there, Roanoke slowly inched its way to the win.
Junior Jabari Kamau connected on a layup with just under two minutes to go as the Bobcats trailed 74-70. That is as close as they would get as the Maroons hit several free throws inside the final minute to earn the win.
Roanoke finished 27-of-37 at the foul line and trailed just twice in the game. Sophomore Nick Smoot hit the game's first basket to give FSU the early 2-0 lead. Peters later hit his first three-pointer of the contest to give the visitors an 18-17 lead, midway through the opening half. Frostburg tied the game twice late in the first, but trailed 42-36 at intermission.
Peters led all players with his 30 points and sparked the FSU bench, which outscored RC 47-19. Kamau finished with 14 points and 12 rebounds, while Campbell added 12 points.
Daniel Eacho led Roanoke with 28 points and 18 rebounds, while Andrew Daniels finished second with 13 points.
FSU returns to action this Saturday when it travels to Christopher Newport for a 4:00 pm CAC matchup.
