Penn State Harrisburg Outlasts FSU Women’s Basketball

HARRISBURG, Pa. – Three of five starters scored in double figures and the Frostburg State women's basketball team nearly scored a season-high, but Penn State Harrisburg earned a 90-82 victory in CAC action, Wednesday.

FSU (2-5, 1-2) outscored the Lions (4-5, 1-2) 52-49 in the second half, but couldn't overcome a 41-30 halftime deficit. PSH finished with four starters in double figures and never trailed in the contest.

The hosts jumped out to an 11-2 lead inside the first four minutes of action and led by as many 17 points (30-13) with 4:52 left in the first.

The Bobcats collected themselves late in the opening half behind a 15-2 spurt that lasted just 2:41 and narrowed the deficit to 32-28. However, Harrisburg closed out the half on a 9-2 run for a 41-30 edge at the break.

The Lions tried to run away with the contest several times in the second half and led by as many as 21 points (70-49) at the midway point. Frostburg was able to cut it to single digits inside the final five minutes before losing by eight.

Despite three starters in double figures, junior Kyler Redmond came off the bench to power the Bobcat lineup with a career-high 16 points, including 12 in the second half. She added six rebounds and four steals.

Classmate Simone Wise led the starters in scoring with 15 points, followed by senior Elaina Hummel with 13 and junior Ronje James with 12.

Kiara Carter and Kaitlyn Carmo each posted a double-double to lead Penn State Harrisburg. Carter finished with 15 points and 15 boards, while Carmo totaled 16 points and 12 boards.

Harrisburg overcame 45 turnovers with a 49-37 advantage in rebounding and a 31-of-35 effort at the foul line.

Frostburg closes out the 2013 portion of its schedule on Saturday, Dec. 21, with a road contest at Hood at 1:00 pm.
