HARRISBURG, Pa. – Penn State Harrisburg hit back-to-back three-pointers in the closing minutes to rally past visiting Frostburg State for a 60-58 win in CAC men's basketball action, Wednesday night.
Junior Jabari Kamau and sophomore Nick Smoot each scored 16 points for the Bobcats as they fell to 0-8 overall and 0-3 in the CAC. Harrisburg improves to 4-4 overall and 2-1 in the conference.
With Frostburg clinging to a 53-51 lead with a little over three minutes to play in the second half, William Doyle hit a pair of three-pointers to give PSH a 57-53 lead. With 1:35 left, Kenny Stone hit a jumper that extended the Lion lead to 59-53.
Kamau scored the game's next five points, behind a pair of layups and a free throw, as he trimmed Frostburg's deficit to one, 59-58. Harrisburg sealed the win with a late free throw.
To go along with their 16 points, Kamau collected s team-high eight rebounds, while Smoot was a perfect 3-for-3 from beyond the arc. Sophomore Royce Hunsberger totaled 13 points and six rebounds.
Doyle led all players with 21 points behind a game-high five three-pointers. Joey Farthing added 15 points and nine rebounds.
Both teams made nine baskets and five three-pointers in the opening half, but the Bobcats made four more free throws and held a 30-26 edge at the break. Smoot scored 11 points in the opening stanza and Kamau made his first basket of the game that handed FSU a 19-3 lead with 9:15 to play.
Harrisburg closed out the first half with a 23-11 scoring edge to trail by just four at intermission.
FSU closes out the 2013 portion of its schedule when it travels to Roanoke on Dec. 30 at 2:00 pm.
