FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State volleyball team came up short in two matches as it hosted Saint Vincent and Shenandoah, Saturday.

In the first match of the day, the Bobcats (3-19) were overpowered by Saint Vincent (9-10) in three sets (25-18, 25-21, 30-28).
Despite Aimee Petrides producing a game-high nine kills, the Bobcats couldn't close the Bearcats' gap in the second half of the first set. Tied at 12-12, Saint Vincent rattled off eight-straight points and the Bobcats couldn't recover falling 25-18.
The Bobcats battled in the second set and stuck right with the Bearcats. Saint Vincent held a slim three-point advantage for a majority of the second frame and finished with a 25-21 victory.
In the third and final set, the first team to 25 just wasn't enough as both teams reached a combined 58 points. In the third frame, neither team could grab an advantage down the wire as the score was knotted six separate times. Tied at 28-28, the Bobcats suffered two errors to fall 30-28.
Along with Petrides' nine kills, junior Morgan Hoover and senior April Wolfe turned in eight kills apiece while Wolfe added 16 digs. Hoover served up three aces and Wolfe donated two. Sophomore setter Caitlyn Collins dished 24 assists while senior Brianna Teets contributed three blocks.
In the final match of the day, the Bobcats suffered a heartbreaking 3-2 loss to Shenandoah (9-11).
The Bobcats came out ready to play, taking a 25-18 first set win. Frostburg held a 17-10 advantage in kills with April Wolfe leading the way with seven in the first frame.
The Hornets were the aggressors in the second set, taking a 25-18 victory.
The third set was a war for both teams, as they remained tied at 21-21 late in the frame. Wolfe started the Frostburg advantage with a kill to put the score at 22-21. The Hornets struggled with three late errors to give the Bobcats the win at 25-22.
The Bobcats just couldn't close the victory as Shenandoah clawed back and grabbed a slim 26-24 advantage and sent the match to its fifth and final set.
The Hornets maintained the momentum holding a slight 11-10 advantage. Three-straight kills put the game at 14-10. The Bobcats had a good opportunity, taking advantage of the Hornets' back-to-back errors, but Shenandoah ended the match with a kill from Jasmine Callahan, 15-12.
Petrides again paced the Bobcats with a game-high and season-high 18 kills while producing four service aces. Wolfe wasn't far behind with 15 kills, good for her career-high, 17 digs and two aces. Hoover added 12 kills and matched Collins' effort with three aces, as Collins handed out 48 assists. Teets donated three blocks and six kills.
Frostburg hosts conference opponent Mary Washington on Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
