Bobcats Suffer Narrow CAC Loss

YORK, Pa. – York took a 2-0 lead in the first half and held the Frostburg State men's soccer team to just one goal in the second half to earn a 2-1 win in the Bobcats last regular-season contest, Wednesday evening.

Box Score

The Spartans (16-2, 7-1 CAC) scored on just the second shot of the game at 3:45 as Jake Hower connected with a cross from Charlie Versen for the 1-0 lead.

The Bobcats (11-5, 4-4 CAC ) outshot York 7-6 in the first half but it was the Spartans' Austin Johnson who collected another first half goal at 30:59.

Although both teams shot a combined 11 shots in the second half, the frame remained scoreless until the 85th minute. Senior defender Chris Jones finally got the Bobcats on the board with a late second half goal, assisted by sophomore Kyle Walczak.

The Bobcats had little time to try to even out the score, despite two opportunities from freshman Nebayee Tesfu and Walczak as they surrendered the 2-1 defeat.

Freshman goalie Jason Bicknell posted five saves in the net, while Spartan keeper collected three in the win.

Frostburg State returns to action in the first round of the CAC playoffs on Saturday, November 2. The fifth-seeded Bobcats will travel to fourth-seeded Mary Washington for an opening round match set to begin at 2:00 pm.
