The Bobcats got on the board early, taking advantage of their only corner kick of the half. Sophomore Kyle Walczak took the corner and found junior Bryan Lentine directly in front of the net to put the hosts up 1-0.
The game went through a 48-minute scoreless draught right through halftime and 10 minutes into the second frame.
Southern Virginia found its only score of the day at 55:50 as the Knights took advantage of a penalty kick opportunity. Freshman defender Sam Bunnell took his shot and slipped it just left of diving Bobcat keeper freshman Hussan Mostafa to knot the game at 1-1.
The tempo of the game immediately jolted as both teams fought to break the 1-1 standstill. Anticipation ended about 12 minutes later when senior Chris Jones set up Walczak for his first goal of the season.
The Bobcats kept the hits coming, recording four more goals over a 20-minute stretch to finish the contest with a 6-1 edge.
Freshman Nabayee Tesfu and seniors Michael Norman, Brandon Rodgers and Alex Brainard all netted a goal in the second half.
The six-goal mark is a season-high for the Bobcats and the first time that FSU has produced six goals since 2009.
Mostafa finished with two saves for his fourth win of the season between the pipes. SVU's Scott Zaring tallied three saves while suffering the loss.
Frostburg returns to action this Saturday for senior day as it hosts conference opponent St. Mary's (Md.) at 3:30 pm.
