Second Half Scoring Propels CNU Past Bobcats

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – The Frostburg State men's soccer team held a 1-0 halftime lead, but Christopher Newport scored five second half goals to rebound for a 5-1 win in Capital Athletic Conference action, Saturday.

Bobcat freshman Chris Herbert scored in the 17th minute as the visitors surged to a 1-0 lead. Herbert capitalized on a failed clear by the Captains (8-4-1, 2-1 CAC) for his third goal of the season.

FSU (9-3, 3-2 CAC) attempted just four shots in the first half but held a slim 1-0 lead at intermission.

The momentum swung completely in favor of host CNU in the second half as it scored five goals in 45 minutes. Five different captain players found the net, while Jalon Brown scored the game-winner in the 54th minute. Sebastian Abrigo handed out three assists to lead the team in scoring.

Christopher Newport's second half scoring surge was aided by a Bobcat red card in the 59th minute of play.

Bobcat freshman Hassan Mostafa suffered the loss after allowing four goals in 82 minutes of action. Classmate Jason Bicknell entered the game in relief of Mostafa, while collecting two saves and allowing a goal.

 Frostburg returns to action this Wednesday as it hosts Southern Virginia at 5:00 pm.
