CRESSON, Pa. - The Frostburg State University women’s basketball team just couldn’t hold on to a seven-point first half lead, falling to Mount Aloysius on Wednesday evening, 65-56.

Determined to get back on track after a four-game losing stint, the Bobcats came out strong and ready to play. FSU grabbed the first four points of the game from two of its starting guards in sophomore Ronje’ James and junior Elaina Hummel.
Four separate Bobcats scored to continue the FSU lead, 6-1, while holding the Mounties to just one point until 14:05 left in the first half.
Frostburg maintained its lead with help from James who went 3-for-5 from the field, leading the Bobcats in the first half with seven points. The Bobcats also sustained their lead by holding the rebounding advantage, 22-18, including eight rebounds from freshman Brionna Hall.
The Bobcats extended their lead to seven, 19-12, from two good free throws from senior Brynn Arnone with 9:19 left in the half.
The Mounties clawed all the way back to knot the game at 25-25, with 1:54 left in the first frame and found their first lead of the game just 40 seconds later. The Bobcats couldn’t get a stop against Mount Aloysius’ Sammarco Lindsey who scored five unanswered points at the end of the first half to put the Mounties up five, 30-25.
FSU couldn’t regain the lead in the second half as Mount Aloysius eventually extended their lead to 22, 63-41 with 2:35 left in the contest. Refusing to go down without a fight, senior Steph Straka and James scored seven straight times to attempt to cut into the host’s lead. The duo scored a combined 12 points but time unfortunately ran out. A buzzer beater long ball by freshman forward Courtney Young posted the final score at 65-56.
Hummel led FSU with 14, including a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line. Straka finished with 11 points while James ended with 10. Hall totaled 10 rebounds on the night while chipping in six points.
Mount Aloysius was led by Sammarco who posted a game-high 24 points while freshman Becky Bard contributed 16.
FSU returns home after three consecutive road games to host Capital Athetic Conference opponent, Mary Washington, January 26th at 1:00 pm.
