ARLINGTON, Va. – Marymount opened up a 16-point cushion at halftime and cruised in the second half to a 68-46 win over visiting Frostburg State in CAC action, Saturday.

Both teams overcame 20-plus turnovers, but the Saints (14-4, 4-1 CAC) capitalized off of Frostburg’s mistakes, scoring 28 points off turnovers to Frostburg’s 13.
The Bobcats (5-11, 1-5 CAC) were able to stand their ground in the opening minutes of the first half, but the home team poured it on and took a seven point advantage, 12-5, with 11:34 left in the first frame.
A quick hit by sophomore guard Ronje’ James and a long ball from junior Elaina Hummel brought the Bobcats within two, 12-10 with ten minutes to go. After a three minute battle of swapping baskets the Saints regained their seven point lead and eventually extended it to double digits, 34-18, at half.
The Bobcats put together a couple of runs in the second frame but the host’s lead proved to be too much to handle despite shooting 75% from the foul line and a 11 point shooting performance by Hummel.
FSU had no answer for Marymount’s inside game. The Saints out-rebounded the Bobcats 68-46 and scored 26 points in the paint to Frostburg’s six.
Hummel was the lone Bobcat to reach double figures. She totaled 16 points, two assists and a steal. Seniors Brynn Arnone and Steph Straka led in rebounding with six a piece.
Marymount had four players in double digits including a game-high 23 points by the CAC’s leading scorer Katelyn Fischer.
Frostburg takes a break from CAC action when they travel to Virginia to face Bridgewater on Monday, January 21 at 7:00 pm.
