Women's Soccer Suffers First Loss of the Season

OWINGS MILLS, Md. - The FSU women's soccer team found their first loss of the season to Stevenson 1-0, after an impressive 6-0-1 start to the year, on Friday night.

Frostburg couldn't find a goal despite a total of 11 shot attempts, with four shots on goal. Stevenson had the advantage of shots with 19 attempts with seven being on goal.

The Mustangs scored the first and only goal of the evening in the 25th minute of play. Freshman defender Allie Ondrejcak found junior forward Jamie Matlock close to the net and Matlock took a shot sliding it past the Frostburg goalkeeper Katie Smith.

FSU freshman Erin Worthman attempted to tie up the battle at 33:19 with a close shot that was denied by the crossbar. Sophomore Stephanie Fazenbaker took a shot from the top of the box eight minutes later but Stevenson goalkeeper Lauren Weitzman earned her first of four saves of the game.

The Bobcats found a momentum surge coming out of halftime and held the majority of the offensive possession for the first ten minutes. Dorie Gedrige, Fazenbaker and Worthman all attempted shots to get Frostburg on the board but came up short. In the final minute of play, senior Liz Seligman had an opportunity to send the game into overtime but missed just right of the goal.

Smith earned six saves while suffering her first loss of the season.

Frostburg returns to the field on Wednesday, September 26 when they host Gettysburg at 7:00 pm.
