After a scoreless first half that featured several chances for both teams, the Bobcats (5-0-1) got on the board first. In the 63rd minute, senior Shawn Baker slipped a pass up the middle to a streaking Ryan Russell who buried a shot in the bottom right corner of the net for a 1-0 lead.

Moments later, Russell had a chance to put the Bobcats up 2-0. He attempted to lift a shot over SU keeper John Vnenchak but the ball wasn’t quite high enough and Vnenchak held onto the shot to kept the Bobcats from adding to their lead.

Following the save, Salisbury turned up the pressure in its offensive end. The Sea Gulls (5-1-1) attempted five shots over a five minute stretch starting at 73:06. FSU keeper Abiye Jack made three saves during the flurry but the fifth attempt found the net. On the fourth shot, Jack made a tough save on an Adrian Tombini shot, but the ball trickled to Elliott Crompton who scored to even the contest at 1-1.

Both Jack and Vnenchak made one final save each in the closing minutes to help send the contest to overtime.

Frostburg held the momentum in the first extra frame attempting the only three shots, but all three were saves by Vnenchak.  In the second overtime, junior Pablo Torrano provided the final scoring opportunity for the Bobcats, but his header off a free kick was saved with less than two minutes remaining.

Jack finished with five saves for the Bobcats while Vnenchak made eight saves. Frostburg held a 17-12 edge in shot, despite the Sea Gulls holding a decisive 13-6 edge in corner kicks.

Frostburg returns to the field on Tuesday evening when it hosts Penn State Altoona at 7:00 pm.
