FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Frostburg State men’s lacrosse team fell to Mary Washington, 11-6, Saturday afternoon in a Capital Athletic Conference contest.

The loss drops the Bobcats to 2-12 overall and 0-6 in the CAC. Mary Washington improved its overall record to 8-4 and evened its league record to 3-3.
Mary Washington opened a 7-2 lead after two quarters of action. In the first, the Eagles scored four goals and led 4-0 after one. Luke Dick scored the game’s first three goals for the hosts.
Senior Dan Dowd and sophomore Devon Stailey answered in the second quarter for the Bobcats. Dowd scored at 12:58 to cut the deficit to 4-1. Mary Washington pushed the lead back to four at 8:42 with its fifth goal, but Stailey found the net at 5:40 as FSU inched to within three goals at 5-2.
UMW closed out the first half with two late goals. Dick scored at 1:39 and the Eagles snuck a goal in with seven seconds left in the second quarter for a 7-2 halftime advantage.
Mary Washington extended its lead to 10-2 with three goals in the third quarter.
The fourth quarter, however, belonged to the Bobcats as they outscored Mary Washington 4-1 and narrowed the gap to 11-6 at the final horn. Sophomore Andy Luhmann ended the five-goal run for the Eagles with the first score of the fourth that brought it to 10-3.
Luhman assisted freshman Chris Rios on the second goal of the fourth at 8:04 that trimmed the count to 10-4. Rios then registered his second assist of the afternoon when he connected with sophomore Britton Hoover at 2:47 to bring FSU to within five, 10-5.
Twenty three seconds after UMW’s final goal of the game at 1:53, Rios brought Frostburg back to within five with his second goal of the quarter.
Rios finished with two goals and two assists to lead Frostburg in scoring while Luhmann contributed one goal and one assist. Sophomore Billy Lark returned to lineup and won 12-of-21 (57.1%) face-offs. Sophomore keeper Alex Sharrer made 11 saves in the cage.
UMW, which led 34-26 in shots and 36-26 in ground balls, was led in scoring by John Bohlinger with three goals and two assists followed by four goals from Dick. Matt Prin earned the victory in goal after making seven saves and allowing just four goals in 53:34 of play.
Frostburg returns to the field this Saturday when it hosts York (Pa.) on senior day at 3:00 pm.
