Men’s Lacrosse Falls In Home Finale

FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State men’s lacrosse team dropped its home finale to York (Pa.), 14-6, in Capital Athletic Conference action, Saturday on Senior Day.

After falling behind 2-0, the Bobcats (2-13, 0-7) closed out the first quarter scoring when sophomore Devon Stailey found the net with 2:37 left to draw the hosts to within one.

York took control by scoring the game’s next nine goals for an 11-1 lead. The Spartans (8-5, 4-3) scored four goals in the second quarter for a 6-1 halftime edge. They added five more goals in the third quarter for the 11-1 lead after three quarters of play.

Frostburg held the upper hand in the final quarter by outscoring the visitors 5-3 for the 14-6 final.

FSU freshman Chris Rios ended the 9-0 York run with his first of two goals in the fourth as he scored an unassisted tally at 12:21. Senior Dan Dowd was credited with an assist on Rios’ second goal as the tandem found the net at 5:54 for a score of 12-3.

York scored back-to-back goals over a 12-second stretch for a 14-3 lead, however, the Bobcats closed out the contest with three-straight goals. Sophomore Billy Lark won his ninth face-off of the game, scooped up the ground ball and maneuvered towards the net before finding Dowd for a goal at 2:53. 

Frostburg State further cut into its deficit with 1:17 left as Dowd handed out his second assist as he found sophomore Britton Hoover for the team’s fifth goal. Sophomore Andy Luhmann capped the game with an unassisted goal with 55 seconds remaining.

York attempted 49 shots, including 30 during the second and third quarter scoring run. The Spartans picked up 40 ground balls and were 23-of-24 on clears.

Dowd led FSU in scoring with one goal and two assists while Rios finished with two goals. Lark won 13-of-24 face-offs while sophomore keeper Alex Sharrer made 13 saves.

Tyler Hutson scored three times and handed out one assist to lead York.

The Bobcats travel to fourth ranked Stevenson for their CAC finale this Wednesday at 7:00 pm.
