ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. - In its final game before jumping into Capital Athletic Conference action, the Frostburg State men's lacrosse team suffered a 12-8 setback behind a late scoring surge from Elizabethtown College, Wednesday.

With the game knotted at 7-7 with 7:19 showing on the third quarter clock, Elizabethtown scored five-straight goals that ended at 4:53 in the fourth for a 12-7 lead. Dan Patton scored all three of his goals during the run that propelled the Blue Jays to a 3-2 overall record.
The Bobcats (2-5) rallied from a 3-1 deficit late in the first quarter of action with a 5-0 scoring spurt of their own for a 6-3 lead with 6:17 left in the second quarter.
Three goals during the 5-0 run came within a 1:09 stretch. Senior Dan Dowd scored an unassisted tally at 7:26 and the Bobcats then took advantage of a pair of Elizabethtown penalties for the next two scores. Sophomore Ricky Kneebone scored at 6:45 and Dowd added his second goal at 6:17 as FSU surged ahead 6-3.
The Blue Jays (3-2) scored the next four goals to recapture the lead 7-6 with 7:34 left in the third quarter. The first two goals capped the first half as FSU held a slim 6-5 lead at the break.
Sophomore Ryan Serio scored off a pass from freshman Devin Colegrove to tie the contest at 7-7 at 7:19 in the third before the 5-0 Blue Jay run sealed the win.
Eight different Bobcats registered at least one point in the loss. Freshman Devin Colegrove handed out three assists while Dowd finished with two goals, both in the second quarter. Serio and freshman Greg Bourne added one goal and one assist each. Kneebone, sophomores Phil Hess and Devon Stailey along with freshman Chris Rios each found the net once.
Sophomore Billy Lark won 15-of-23 face-offs to lead FSU, which won the face-off battle for the seventh time this spring. The Bobcats also led 44-43 in ground balls and were a perfect 2-of-2 in extra-man opportunities. Sophomore Tyler Haines made 13 saves in the loss, his third-straight contest with 10 or more and fourth of the season overall.
Dan Patton (three goals; one assist) led Elizabethtown in scoring while Shawn Corcoran contributed three goals.
Frostburg State opens CAC play this Saturday when it hosts St. Mary's at 1:00 pm.
