ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The Frostburg State women concluded its 2011-12 season with a loss at St. Mary's (Md.), 85-60, Saturday afternoon.
The Seahawks (10-15, 8-8) jumped on Frostburg early. After the Bobcats opened the game with a free throw, St. Mary's scored the next nine points to lead 9-1 at the 16:03 mark. They never relented. St. Mary's led, 25-7, with 9:20 remaining and took its biggest lead of the half after three Leah Cranmer free throws made it 39-16 with 2:02 to play. Frostburg (5-20, 3-13) trailed 41-20 at intermission.
The Bobcats picked up the pace on the offensive end in the second half, but the deficit was just too much to overcome. Two Bobcat guards finished in double figures. Freshman RJ James led the way with 15 points, while junior Stephanie Straka chipped in with 14 points and added three steals and three assists.
Frostburg had trouble holding on the basketball as it committed 32 turnovers resulting in 36 Seahawk pooints. St. Mary's also received 53 points from its bench. St. Mary's made 32 of its 40 free throw attempts.
Senior Meische Cox led the team with eight rebounds, and junior Brynn Arnone had seven points, six rebounds and three assists.
