Boxscore

The Bobcats (2-5) battled early with SU not letting them drift too far away in the first frame. Junior guard Elaina Hummel scored Frostburg’s first basket of the game off an assist by sophomore forward Bobbi McDonald.

Three minutes later McDonald found herself a lane for a layup and 30 seconds later assisted one of Hummel’s five three pointers of the contest to tie the game at 7-7.

The Sea Gulls answered right back with a layup by Kelsey Verica to give them the 9-7 edge, however a missed SU jumper and a defensive rebound by Hummel gave freshman guard Shalanda Haney the opportunity to find the bucket for two.

Salisbury pulled ahead by seven with eight minutes to go in the first half with scores from four different players. Again, the Bobcats fought back to put the game within three with four minutes to go by a jumper from senior guard Steph Straka and two free throws from Hummel and senior forward Brynn Arnone.

The Bobcats went into halftime down 25-18. Determined to cut into the SU advantage, Arnone put together back-to-back jumpers for four points. Sophomore guard Ronje’ James scored less than 30 seconds later to bring the Bobcats again within three.

Frostburg continued to fight, trailing by just 10 with six minutes left to play. That was as close as the Bobcats would get from that point on, as the Sea Gulls put together an outlasting run to eventually put themselves up by 21 with 3:47 in the game.

Hummel had a game-high 20 points, including a 5-9 performance from behind the arc. Straka led the Bobcats in rebounding with nine while also racking eight points, three assists, two steals and a block.

Frostburg hits the road again on Dec. 11 for a non-conference game against Penn State Harrisburg at 6:00 pm.
