Volleyball Drops Two on First Day of Goucher Invitational

TOWSON, Md. - The Frostburg State University volleyball squad dropped two matches to Lynchburg and Stevenson on the first day of the Goucher Invitational, Saturday.

In the first match, the Bobcats battled but lost in five sets to Lynchburg. Frostburg took the first set 25-23 but the Hornets answered back with two wins of 25-11 and 25-21. FSU took the fourth 26-24 but fell in the final set 16-14.

Sophomore Maddie White led Frostburg with a double-double of 17 digs and a career best 19 kills. Two other Bobcats found career highs as freshman Aimee Petrides racked up 12 kills and sophomore Kass Greis handed out an impressive 42 assists while registering three aces. Freshman Caitlin Droz contributed 12 digs while senior Chelsea McCloskey chipped in with 11 in the match against Lynchburg.

In the second and final match of the day, the Bobcats lost to Stevenson 3-0 by set scores of 25-13, 25-10, 25-15.

Petrides and White led Frostburg with four kills each with White adding six digs. Sophomore Andrea Armstrong racked up three kills and four digs while classmate Morgan Hoover tossed in two kills and two aces. Greis and Droz both donated four digs in the loss to Stevenson.

Frostburg State returns to the court tomorrow on the second day of the Goucher Invitational with matches against Brigewater at 10:00 am and host Goucher at noon.
