Men's Soccer Downs Marymount 3-1 on Senior Day

FROSTBURG, Md. - With a second half surge, the Frostburg State men's soccer team defeated conference opponent Marymount on senior day 3-1 during a rainy Homecoming Saturday.

The Bobcats (11-1-4) wasted no time and jumped out to an early lead when senior Shawn Baker connected off a penalty kick past the Saints keeper at 4:53. Marymount answered back six minutes later off yet another penalty kick when junior midfielder Onar Yousefi scored the Saints first and only goal of the contest.

The game remained knotted throughout the duration of the first period despite four corner kicks and six shot attempts by Marymount.

Frostburg held an offensive advantage during the second period outshooting the Saints 14-2. The Bobcats seniors took full advantage of their senior day when they came out strong early in the second period as senior Godwin Amuzie assisted Baker's second goal of the contest at 47:41.

The score would stay at 2-1 until the final minutes of the game. FSU had a couple key attempts that fell short including a header by Amuzie and a shot by junior Alex Brainard that came close but both were saved by the Saint goalkeeper Mike Madigan.

The Bobcats would connect one last time to finalize the score at 3-1. Baker sent a perfect lead pass to Brainard who glided the ball right into the net 84:53. Overall, Frostburg shot a total of 16 attempts with 13 being on goal.

Senior Abiye Jack needed just two saves in order to post his 11th win of the season.

Frostburg men's soccer returns to action on Tuesday, October 23 when they host non-conference opponent Goucher at 6:00 pm.
