FROSTBURG, Md. – St. Mary’s used a 45-26 scoring advantage in the second half en route to a 72-57 win over Frostburg State in Capital Athletic Conference women’s basketball action, Saturday.
FSU (5-11, 3-5) led 31-27 at the half, but St. Mary’s collected a 28-9 run over the first 7:57 of the second half for a 55-40 lead. The Seahawks shot 45.7 percent (16-of-35) in the second half and held the Bobcats to just nine baskets and a 24.3 shooting percentage.
The Bobcats cut the deficit to eight points on two occasions, the final at 7:11, but SMCM used a quick 6-0 spurt to push its lead back to 14 points, 65-51, with 4:57 showing.
Sophomore Elizabeth Erickson posted a double-double with 17 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Bobcats in scoring and rebounding. Her 17 points tie a season-high, set last Saturday against Salisbury. Freshman Simone Wise scored 10 points
Raven Owens finished with a game-high 21 points for St. Mary’s (6-10, 4-3). Joanna Murray and Shana Lewis each added nine points.
Frostburg emerged from a tight first half with a 31-27 edge at the break. The first half saw 10 lead changes and seven ties and the hosts scored the final four points of the half for the lead at intermission.
The Bobcats return to the floor on Wednesday, January 18, when they host Bridgewater at 7:00 pm.
