STEVENSON, Md. – Frostburg State led by as many as 21 points in the second half, but had to hang on for a 75-70 victory over Stevenson in Capital Athletic Conference play, Wednesday.

The Bobcats (7-9, 4-3) held a 55-34 lead with 12:05 showing in the second half, but watched as Stevenson (3-11, 0-5) battled back and closed to within three points late in the game.

A key 7-0 spurt brought the deficit to single digits, 60-52, with 5:19 showing on the clock. At 2:40, a three-pointer continued the surge for the Mustangs as they moved to within three points, 65-62. It was the closest SU had been since trailing by two points with 7:02 left in the opening half.

On the ensuring trip down the floor, FSU senior Maurice Williams hit a timely three-pointer that pushed the lead to 68-62. Fellow senior Troy Dockett gave the Bobcats a little more breathing room with a jumper at 1:30 that handed them a 70-63 edge.

Following a Stevenson basket at 1:17, the Bobcats made three-of-four free throws attempts for a 73-65 lead as the clock dipped inside of one minute.

Frostburg rebounded behind an 11-3 jolt to grab a one-point cushion, 13-12, with 9:54 showing. Dockett was the driving force behind the run, scoring seven points and dishing out one assist. He found Williams who drained a three-pointer that capped that outburst.
