FROSTBURG, Md. - Five different Frostburg State players scored a goal in the women's soccer team's 5-0 season-opening win over Concord on Thursday night at Bobcat Stadium. The Bobcats also used three goalkeepers to blank the Lions.
Box Score
Frostburg (1-0) opened the scoring in the fifth minute with a header by senior Erin Ford off of a corner kick by junior defender Liz Seligman. Seligman assisted on many goals last year in the same fashion, and she was up to those old tricks less than five minutes into the season.
The Bobcats added three more goals in the first half as they outshot Concord, 12-0, in the opening frame. Senior Dorie Gedridge blasted a shot past Lion keeper Kacey Hildebrand in the 16th minute to push the score to 2-0. Sophomore Adria Graham, the team's leading returning scorer, made it 3-0 in the 36th minute off a feed from freshman Stephanie Fazenbaker. Fellow freshman Katie Evans rounded out the first half onslaught in the 41st minute.
Freshman Sarah Allsop completed the scoring in the 76th minute. The Bobcat defense allowed Concord's first and only shot of the game four minutes later. For the game, FSU outshot Concord, 16-1.
Senior Michelle Buckmaster, senior Kristin Prochniak and freshman Katie Smith combined for the shutout.
The Bobcats have a quick turnaround as they travel to Eastern Mennonite tomorrow for a 7:00 p.m. kickoff.
