ARLINGTON, Va. - The Frostburg State men's lacrosse team opened up a 6-0 halftime lead en route to an 11-8 victory over Marymount, Friday night. The victory is the first in Capital Athletic Conference play for FSU.

The Bobcats (5-11, 1-7) pounced on the Saints (2-14, 0-8) in the opening half of play. Frostburg scored two goals in the first quarter and four more in the second as they grabbed a 6-0 cushion at the break.

Brandon Lutz (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) each scored in the first quarter as FSU held a 12-4 edge in shots. The Bobcats held a 13-3 lead in shots in the second, but scored four times behind a pair of goals from both sophomore

FSU continued the surge into the third quarter when Dowd and freshman
Mark Petrasek (Crofton, Md./Arundel) scored within a minute of one another and handed the visitors an 8-0 lead.
However, Marymount did not go quietly and made things interesting late in the game. MU rebounded with a 3-0 run in the third quarter that cut into the deficit, 8-3. Flaig answered for the Bobcats late in the third with an unassisted goal with 48 seconds showing that pushed their lead back to six, 9-3.
The Saints used another 3-0 run, this time to open fourth quarter action, and further trim the FSU lead to 9-6. Freshman
Zach Kowatch (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) scored for the Bobcats at 8:04 and pushed the lead to 10-6, but Marymount answered again and scored back-to-back goals to pull within two, 10-8, with just 2:39 to play.

Hunter Marshall (Pocomoke, Md./Worcester Prep.) won the ensuing faceoff and after a timeout, Dowd scored his third of the game for an 11-8 lead. Freshman goalie
Tyler Haines (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) did his part to help the win with three big saves after Dowd's goal to keep Marymount from getting any closer.
FSU won 18-of-23 faceoffs and was a perfect 7-of-7 in the third quarter. The Bobcats attempted 36 shots and picked up 36 ground balls.
Dowd and Flaig each finished with three goals and an assist while Serio contributed two goals and two assists. Haines finished with 12 saves for his fourth win. Freshman
Billy Lark (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) picked up a team-high six ground balls.
The Saints Jeff Cook scored two goals and had one assist while Chris Wascak had just one goal, but three assists.
The Bobcats finish off their season in the final week of April when they travel to Washington & Jefferson at 7:00 pm.
