Dan Dowd (Friendship, Md./Southern) scored two goals and had one assist for the Frostburg State men's lacrosse team in an 8-5 loss to Hood College in CAC action, Tuesday.

The Bobcats (4-11, 0-7) hung tough throughout the contest and led 4-2 in the second, but Hood closed out the out game with a 6-1 run for the win. The victory locked up a playoff spot for the Blazers (7-6, 3-4) in the upcoming CAC Tournament, their first postseason berth in program history.
Hood found the net twice in the opening quarter and led 2-1 after the first. Freshman
Zach Kowatch (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) scored with 5:31 left to knot the game at 1-1, before the Blazers assumed a 2-1 lead late in the quarter.

Ricky Kneebone (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) scored a man-up goal with 9:33 to play in the second quarter that started a 3-0 Bobcat run that landed them a 4-2 edge. Dowd scored the second goal for FSU in the second quarter (5:13) and freshman
Devon Stailey (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) added a goal with 2:47 to play as the Bobcats looked to carry the lead into halftime.
However, the Blazers scored two goals in the final minute of the opening half to tie the game at 4-4 at the break. Hood continued that 2-0 run into the second half with two more goals for a 6-4 advantage with 9:18 to play in the third.
Dowd brought the Bobcats back within one goal with his 24th score of the season at 3:05 as Frostburg trailed just 6-5. FSU attempted three more shots over the remainder of the third quarter, including two that were saved by Hood keeper William Lane, as the game headed to the fourth.
Hood gave itself some breathing room with a goal just over three minutes into the final quarter and grabbed a three-goal lead, 8-5, with its final score at 6:37.
The Bobcats stepped up their intensity in the final five minutes with six shots, but Lane made four saves to help Hood secure its third conference win of the season.

Ryan Serio (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) handed out two assists. In net, freshman
Tyler Haines (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) stopped 15 shots, including six in the third quarter. He has made 15 or more saves in each of the last four games.
Hood was led in scoring by Kris Miner and Dominique Shorter. Miner scored twice and had one assist while Shorter handed out two assists and added one goal.
The game was evenly matched as neither held a major statistical advantage. Hood outshot FSU 34-30, and picked up one more ground (37-36). Each team had 34 clears while FSU won 8-of-15 faceoffs. The Bobcats also finished 1-of-3 in extra-man opportunities and limited Hood to just one goal in eight tries.
The Bobcats wrap up CAC play on Thursday when they travel to Marymount at 4:00 pm.
