Men's Lacrosse Drops CAC Matchup at St. Mary's, 13-8

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The Frostburg State University men's lacrosse team fell at St. Mary's (Md.), 13-8, Saturday afternoon. The Seahawks used a 6-0 run stretching from the second to the fourth quarters to pull away from the Bobcats.

Box Score

Sophomore Lucas Flaig (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) led the team with three goals, while junior Dan Dowd (Friendship, Md./Southern) and freshman Ryan Serio (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) had three points apiece.

The Bobcats (3-7, 0-3) jumped out to a 1-0 lead on a goal by freshman Andy Luhmann (Ashburn, Va./Briar Woods) at the 9:52 mark of the opening quarter. That would be the only tally of the first for Frostburg, as St. Mary's responded with three goals in just under three minutes to take a 3-1 lead into the second.

Luhmann assisted on Flaig's first goal 48 seconds into the second period to cut the deficit to 3-2. After St. Mary's responded with a pair to push its lead to 5-2, the Bobcats roared back with three straight to balance the score. Dowd, Serio and freshman Steven Marciniak (Mt. Airy, Md./Linganore) got the goals. Those would be the last goals Frostburg would score until the fourth period, though, as St. Mary's tightened its defense to pull away with that decisive 6-0 run spanning approximately 26 minutes.

Flaig and Serio scored the Bobcats' three fourth-period goals, but the Seahawks managed to nurse their lead and finish the afternoon with a 13-8 win.

Freshman Zach Burkhardt (Baltimore, Md./Eastern Tech) led the team with three caused turnovers. Freshman goalie Tyler Haines (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) made 11 saves in the loss.

St. Mary's (2-5, 1-1) won the faceoff battle, 14-10, and scooped up 32 ground balls to the Bobcats' 19.

The Bobcats return home for a non-conference game against Susquehanna on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.
