FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State University men’s lacrosse team posted a lopsided 19-3 victory over St. Joseph’s (Maine) behind stellar performances from junior
Dan Dowd (Friendship, Md./Southern) and freshmen
Ryan Serio (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) and
Phil Hess (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata), Monday afternoon.

The trio combined to score 21 points to lift FSU to a 3-4 overall record on the season.
Serio scored three times in the opening quarter to help FSU to a 5-2 lead after the first. FSU was very efficient in the first quarter with five goals on nine shots.
Hess scored twice and Dowd added the third and final goal of the second quarter for the Bobcats who led 8-2 at halftime. It was the second largest lead at the half this season for FSU.
The teams traded goals to open the third quarter before Frostburg rallied off 10-straight goals over the remainder of the game. The Bobcats scored seven goals on 12 shots in the third quarter and led 15-3 after three quarters.
Frostburg State added four more goals in the fourth for the 19-3 final.
Both Serio and Dowd registered eight points each. Serio scored a season and game-high six goals and added two assists while Dowd passed out six assists with two goals. Hess scored three goals and had two assists.
Freshman
Hunter Marshall (Pocomoke, Md./Worcester Prep.) won 7-of-9 faceoffs, classmate
Glenn Horning (Havre de Grace, Md./Havre de Grace) won 4-of-5 and FSU as a team won 16-of-26. Frostburg State also finished 24-of-25 on clears, including a perfect 13-of-13 in the opening half. The Bobcats caused 16 turnovers and picked up 56 ground balls.
Freshman
Tyler Haines (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) stopped nine shots and allowed just three goals for his second win of the season.
Jonathan Horgan led the Monks (2-5) with two goals, both in the first quarter, while Spencer Hunt scored a man-up goal in the third quarter. St. Joseph’s picked up 41 groundballs
Frostburg State opens Capital Athletic Conference action on Saturday when it hosts York (Pa.) at 1:00 pm.
