FSU (1-1) fell behind early as St. Vincent (1-1) scored just 1:32 into action, but freshmen Andy Luhmann (Ashburn, Va./Briar Woods), Brandon Lutz (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) and Devon Stailey (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) found the net three-straight times for FSU as it surged out to a 3-1 lead.

The Bearcats then answered with their own run that covered 10 minutes in the first quarter and the first minute of the second, as they collected four consecutive goals for a 5-3 lead. Jake Dick scored twice for SVC during the run.

The Bobcats found the net six times in the second quarter to recapture the lead late in the first half. Stailey scored at 13:28 and junior Dan Dowd (Friendship, Md./Southern) scored just 12 seconds later as the Bobcats tied the contest at 5-5.

FSU then scored four more goals over the next 10 minutes to jump out to a 9-5 lead. Lutz scored twice during the run while sophomore Lucas Flaig (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) and freshman Zach Douglas (Rising, Md./Rising Sun) each added one goal as FSU assumed its largest lead of the game with 2:05 left in the half.

SVC's Will Delanoy narrowed the halftime deficit to 9-6 when he found the net at 1:04 to close the opening half scoring.

However, Delanoy was just getting started as he opened the third quarter with three-straight goals, part of a 4-0 run, as the Bearcats erased the deficit and grabbed a 10-9 lead with 8:34 showing in the third.

Dowd ended the SVC run with his second score of the game at 6:47, but St. Vincent again answered with a 6-0 spurt that covered the rest of the third quarter and the first eight minutes of the fourth. Zach Wilfong led SVC with two goals during that stretch.

Flaig and freshman Hunter Marshall (Pocomoke, Md./Worcester Prep.) sandwiched two Bobcat goals around a St. Vincent score late in the fourth as the final horn sounded.

St. Vincent won 8-of-10 faceoffs in the crucial third quarter and scored eight goals. SVC finished 18-of-33 in faceoffs and attempted a total of 51 shots. DeLanoy led all players with five goals and two assists while Wilfong chipped in three goals and one assist.

Dowd (two goals and one assist), Lutz (three goals), Flaig (two goals and one assist) and freshman Ryan Serio (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) with three assists accounted for 12 points for FSU. Stailey added two goals while Marshall had one goal and one assist. Freshman Tyler Haines (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) made 18 saves in net while suffering the loss.
