Bobcat Women Struggle In 53-38 Loss at Marymount

ARLINGTON, Va. - The Frostburg State women's basketball team stumbled out of the gate and never recovered in a 53-38 loss to Marymount, Wednesday.

The Bobcats (11-13, 8-7) fell behind by 13 points just past the 10-minute mark in the opening half and never fully got into an offensive rhythm. Freshman guard Elaina Hummel (Huntington, Pa./Southern Huntington) hit her third three-pointer of the first half and FSU trailed by just four, 23-19, but Marymount pushed its lead to eight at halftime, 29-21.

The Saints (12-9, 10-5) grabbed a double digit lead on the first basket of the second half and never looked back. They later extended their lead to 23 points, 49-26, with 9:05 left to play.

The Bobcats showed a spark late, closing out the game on a 12-4 run to bring the final deficit to 15, 53-38.

Hummel was the lone FSU player in double figures as she finished with 11 points, behind three first half three-pointers. As a team, FSU was held to just seven baskets in each half and shot 24.6 percent (14-of-57) for the game.

Marymount shot 50.0 percent from the field (22-of-44) and had four players in double figures. Maame Amponsah finished with 10 points and 16 rebounds. MU held a 40-30 edge on the glass and scored 20 of its points in the paint.

Frostburg closes out its regular season on Saturday when it hosts St. Mary's on Pink Zone senior day.
