Men's Hoops Squeaks Past Marymount 70-65 in Overtime

ARLINGTON, Va. - The Frostburg State men's basketball team used a late second half charge to pick up a 70-65 overtime victory over Marymount, Wednesday evening.

The Bobcats (11-13, 6-9) trailed by seven points with 5:26 to play in the second half, but rallied to tie the contest at 57-57 with 1:48 remaining. The Saints (5-19, 3-12) made a layup with 33 seconds left to take a two point lead, 59-57, but FSU senior Steven Ogg (Arlington, Va./Yorktown) hit a game-tying jumper with just four seconds left to send it to overtime.

The teams traded baskets early in OT, but Bobcat sophomore DeSean Antoine (Odenton, Md./Glen Burnie) hit a three-pointer that gave the visitors the lead for good, 64-61. The Saints hit a jumper on their next possession to cut it to one, 64-63, but FSU hit a layup to surge back to a three-point lead. The Bobcats held MU to just two free throws inside the final two minutes, while FSU finished 4-for-4 at the free throw line to seal the win.

Senior Brian Anderson (Perry Hall, Md./Eastern Tech) scored 23 points with five three-pointers. His final three-pointer of the game tied the score at 57-57 with 1:48 left in the second half. He also made all four Bobcat free throws in the extra frame.

Antoine finished with 17 points while junior Maurice Williams (Columbus, Ohio/Pickerington Central) added 16. The win over Marymount marks the fourth-straight game that all three players (Anderson, Williams and Antoine) finished in double figures in the same contest.

Tarek Ammoury led the Saints in scoring with 23 points, including 12 in the first half. John Magnani added a double-double 12 points and 12 rebounds.

The game featured 14 lead changes and eight ties as neither team was able to pull away. The Bobcats grabbed a game-high nine-point lead with 12:04 left in the first half, but Marymount battled back to pull within two points, 27-25, and trailed by three, 32-29, at intermission.

Frostburg State hosts No. 19 ranked St. Mary's on senior day this Saturday at 4:00 pm.
