SALISBURY, Md. - The Frostburg women's basketball team used a 12-1 run to open the second half to defeat in-state rival, Salisbury, 69-59, Saturday afternoon in Capital Athletic Conference action.

Box Score

There were two key stats that painted the picture for how the Bobcats (12-11, 9-5) were successful in earning their eighth win in their past 10 conference games. Besides outrebounding the Sea Gulls, Frostburg dominated inside scoring as it held a 36-12 advantage in points in the paint. A big force was senior forward Mindy Sharp (Marlinton, W.Va. / Pocahontas County (Garret)). She scored 16 points - tied for the team-high with freshman guard Elaina Hummel (Huntington, Pa./Southern Huntington) - and grabbed 15 rebounds. Sharp also blocked four shots, had three assists and two steals.

The second significant number on Saturday afternoon was six. The Bobcats turned the ball over 20 times, yet they held the Sea Gulls to just six points off of turnovers. Frostburg won that category, 18-6. The Frostburg defense stifled Salisbury to just 29.5 percent from the field on the day, including 21.9 percent in the second half.

Frostburg took a one point lead, 29-28, into that second half after trailing for the majority of the first. Senior forward Lisa Byer (Johnstown, Pa./Conemaugh) opened the half with a three-pointer. After a single Salisbury foul shot made it 32-29, the Bobcats rattled off nine straight to push the lead into double digits. Junior forward Delmesha Adamson (Bladensburg, Md./Bladensburg) scored six of those nine points, sandwiched around a Hummel three. Adamson's two free throws at 15:37 capped the run to make the score 41-29.

Salisbury did fight back, cutting the lead to three with 5:09 remaining on a Glen Charlton three. The Bobcats quickly restored order on a pair of Byer makes to push the lead to 59-52 with 4:30 left.

The double-double was Sharp's seventh of the season. She is now averaging 10.7 points and 10.3 rebounds for the season. Sophomore guard Stephanie Straka (Jerome, Pa./Conemaugh Township) joined Sharp and Hummel in double figures with 10 points. She added five assists, two steals, a block, and a career-high eight rebounds.

Frostburg travels to Marymount on Wednesday evening for a 6:00 p.m. tip-off.
