Women’s Basketball Loses to No. 8 Lebanon Valley

ANNVILLE, Pa. – Eighth ranked Lebanon Valley raced out to a big first-half lead en route to a 73-43 victory over the Frostburg State women’s basketball team, Thursday night.

LVC improved to 10-1 overall while FSU fell to 3-9 after suffering its fourth-straight loss. It was the final game of 2011 for both schools.

The Dutchmen led by as many as 25 points in the opening half and held a 45-20 edge at halftime. Lebanon Valley built its lead to 36 points in the closing minutes of the game before winning by 30.

The difference came after the Bobcats led 6-4 early in the first half. LVC used a 14-2 run for a 10-point lead, 18-8, and later pushed its lead to 20, 34-14, with 4:53 showing on the first half clock.

Lebanon Valley hit a pair of free throws to open the second stanza for a 27-point lead, 47-20. The Dutchmen pushed their lead to 31 points with 4:28 showing and led by a game-high 36, 73-37, with 2:47 to play.

Bobcat freshman RJ James scored the game’s final six points to bring the score to 73-43.

LVC shot 48.6 percent (18-of-37) from the floor in the opening half of play and finished at 44.3 percent (27-of-61). Three players scored in double figures, led by 13 from Kiely Caklos. Eleven different players scored for LVC in the win.

Sophomore Elaina Hummel scored a team-high 11 points and handed out three assists to lead Frostburg. She hit the contest's first three-pointer that put FSU up 6-4. James finished finish with eight points and five rebounds while senior Meische Cox added seven points and eight rebounds.

Frostburg State returns to action on Wednesday, January 4, when it hosts Wesley at 4:00 pm.
