Men's Soccer Loses to No. 17 Salisbury in CAC Semifinals

SALISBURY, Md. - Frostburg State surrendered a pair of first-half goals and could not recover in a 3-0 loss to No. 17 ranked Salisbury in the semifinals of the CAC Men's Soccer Tournament, Wednesday afternoon.

Trevor Sharpe (9:56) and Ian Wilson (16:09) found the net in the opening 45 minutes of action for Salisbury, which is ranked 17th by both D3soccer.com and the NSCAA. SU (13-2-3) controlled the first-half tempo as it outshot Frostburg, 12-1, and held a 6-0 edge in corner kicks.

The Bobcats (11-3-4) rebounded in the second half and outshot the hosts, 11-7. Junior Shawn Baker led the team with three shots while classmate and leading scorer Ryan Russell attempted one.

FSU, which entered the game having won five of their last six games, never completely got on track after the early deficit and surrened the game's final goal to the Gulls' Matt Greene at 89:14.

Frostburg keeper Abiye Jack finished with six saves. He made four in the first half and kept the Sea Gulls from adding to their 2-0 lead.

John Vnenchak stopped two second-half shots to keep the visitors off the board and push Salisbury into the league championship for the second-straight season.

The Sea Gulls will face third-seeded York (Pa.) on Saturday, Nov. 5, with the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament on the line.

The Bobcats (11-3-4) will now wait for a possible berth in the 2011 ECAC Tournament. The field will be announced early next week.
