Frostburg Drops Consolation Game of Jim Crawley Tourney

FROSTBURG, Md. - Alvernia University shot 60% in the first half to gain a 17-point halftime lead over the Frostburg State women's basketball team, and the Bobcats never recovered and fell 81-63 in the consolation game of the Ninth Annual Jim Crawley Tournament.

RJ James started the game with a steal and a three-point play in the game's first possesions, but Alvernia answered with an 11-0 run to take an 11-3 lead they would never relinquish.

Alvernia (1-1) dominated the paint in the first half as senior center Angela Altemose shot 4-of-5 from the field and 4-of-4 from the line to total 13 points.  Forward Allie Toczylowski added eight points and five boards as the Crusaders led by as many as 20 points, and took a 43-26 lead into halftime.

Elaina Hummel and Stephanie Straka combined to shoot 5-for-9 from downtown in the second half, and Hummel's 3-pointer at 8:44 cut the Crusader lead to 13. However, that was as close as the Bobcats would come as Alvernia held Frostburg to only 12 points in the game's final eight minutes.

Straka led the Bobcats in scoring for the third consecutive game with 18 points.  James and Hummel would both hit double figures as well with 12 and 13 points, respectively.  Forward Elizabeth Erickson snatched 10 boards and added four blocked shots.

Altemose finished with a double-double, 24 points and 10 boards, and Toczylowski scored 10 points and six rebounds to grab all-tournament team honors.

Frostburg (1-2) returns to play Tuesday night at Bobcat Arena when they host Penn State Altoona at 7 p.m.

Grove City was led once again by Megan Gebrosky's 17 points, and Leah Gibson chipped in nine for the Wolverines.

Henderson led the way for the Bishops with 15 points, while Samanth Urquhart added 12 points and six rebounds.
