Men’s Soccer Caps Regular Season With 3-0 Shutout

ARLINGTON, Va. – Frostburg State capitalized on a pair of first half opportunities to earn a 3-0 win over Marymount, Tuesday night.

The victory is the fourth shutout win of the season for the Bobcats who cap their regular season at 10-2-4 overall and 4-2-2 in the league.

The win also locked up the fourth seed in the upcoming CAC Tournament for the Bobcats. FSU will host either Stevenson or Wesley in the opening round this Saturday at Bobcat Stadium.

“It was good to get a road shutout win as we haven’t posted one in a while,” said head coach Keith Byrnes. “We are excited to return home this Saturday for a playoff game.”

Junior Ryan Russell added to his league-leading goal total with two first-half scores. He now has 15 goals on the season, seven ahead of the next closest player.

Russell scored his first goal just 5:29 into the contest and found the net on free kick from 25 yards out in the 14th minute. Frostburg held the same 2-0 lead at halftime.

Junior Shawn Baker, who was credited with an assist on the game’s first score, pushed the Bobcats’ lead to a comfortable three goals (3-0) in the 60th minute with his second goal of the season.

Despite being shutout, Marymount held the offensive edge with an 18-10 lead in shots. Bobcat keeper Abiye Jack tied a season-high with eight saves for the win.

A preview featuring FSU’s first round matchup will be available in the coming days.
