Despite leading 36-25 at the intermission, Frostburg (9-10, 6-4) found itself down by three midway through the second half. York's Kristen Haley hit a pair of free throws to put the Spartans ahead, 45-42, capping a 10-0 and 20-6 spurt with 12:48 to play in regulation. The Bobcats went on a run of their own, sparked by sophomore guard Stephanie Straka (Jerome, Pa./Conemaugh Township) and junior forward
Delmesha Adamson (Bladensburg, Md./Bladensburg).
Straka's hustle and Adamson's jumpers combined for the first 10 points in a 12-0 run which gave the Bobcats the lead for good. Straka started the run with a defensive rebound and a quick lay-in. After a pair of Adamson buckets, Straka lurked in the forecourt, stole the inbounds pass and layed it in. Adamson and senior forward
Mercedes White (Bowie, Md./Bowie) capped the run with a basket each, and order had been restored with the Bobcats leading, 54-45.
After not registering a minute of playing time in the first half, Adamson came off the bench to hit on a perfect 4-of-4 of her attempts in the second period to finish with 8 points. Straka stuffed the stat sheet by leading all scorers on the evening with 16 points on 8-of-11 shooting and adding seven rebounds and seven assists.
Joining the effective Adamson off of the bench for Frostburg was senior guard
Elizabeth Carrington (Clinton, Md./Oxon Hill) with her 10 points. Carrington also shot 4-of-4 from the field and added a pair of free throws on two attempts. The Bobcats only attempted four free throws in the game, making all four. Frostburg proved to be the deeper team, however, outscoring the Spartans' bench, 26-7, in the game and 20-4 in the second half.
Senior forward
Mindy Sharp (Marlinton, W.Va. / Pocahontas County (Garret)) scored 10 points - all in the first half - and grabbed eight rebounds.
Frostburg now travels to Stevenson on Saturday to face a team they defeated at home just two weeks ago. Tip is set for 2:00 p.m.
