FROSTBURG, Md. – The Frostburg State volleyball team picked up its second conference win of the season with a 3-0 defeat of Stevenson University, Tuesday. The victory was the 10th shutout of the fall for the Bobcats who improve to 16-2 overall and 2-0 in the Capital Athletic Conference.

Senior Sarah Stephens (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) had 15 kills, 13 digs and one ace to lead the FSU offensive attack. Junior Sabrina Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) turned in 12 kills and four blocks while her sister Amber Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) had 10 digs, five kills, two blocks and one ace.

Junior Kylie Carrington (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) passed out 34 assists and had seven digs, senior Jamie Thomas (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) had eight kills, six digs, two blocks and two aces while senior Brittany McVearry (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) posted eight digs

Freshmen Victoria Veirs (Germantown, Md./Good Council) had one kill and one block and Shari Beavers (Cumberland, Md./Fort Hill) recorded one ace and one dig.

Stephens opened game one with seven kills to help the Bobcats to a 9-6 lead. SU ran off five-straight points for an 11-9 edge, but FSU collected runs of 4-0 and 6-2 to lead 20-16. The Mustangs battled back to tie the contest at 23-23, but FSU's Amber Winterling picked up her third kill of the set and Thomas had a service ace to earn a close 25-23 victory.

The second game went back-and-forth through the early part of the set until three-consecutive points allowed the Mustangs to take an 8-7 lead. SU later collected another 3-0 run for a 15-13 edge. However, FSU took control of the game with a 7-1 run for a 21-18 lead. Stephens later ended the set with her eighth kill of the evening for a 25-22 win.

The third set was just as close as neither team led by more than three points. Stevenson opened a 4-1 lead early in the game and kept FSU from capturing the lead until a 3-0 spurt put the Bobcats ahead 18-17. Frostburg never trailed again in the game and inched its way to the win (25-23) behind three more kills from Stephens.

The Bobcats travel to Marymount this Saturday for a tri-match with MU and Washington College starting at 12:00 pm.
