BEAVER FALLS, Pa. - The Frostburg State volleyball team suffered its second-straight defeat with a 3-1 loss to Geneva, Wednesday night. The four-game set was a rematch of the FSU Tournament Championship in which the Bobcats downed the Golden Tornadoes 3-0, two weeks ago.
GC (11-2) won the first two sets by a count of 25-19. FSU (13-2) rebounded for a slim 25-23 win in the third game, but Geneva proved too strong and closed out the match with a 26-24 win in the fourth.
Junior middle hitter
Sabrina Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) led team at the net with 14 kills and three blocks. It's the fourth time in the last five matches that she has had at least 10 kills. Senior
Sarah Stephens (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) turned in 13 kills and 15 digs for her ninth double-double of the season.
Junior setter
Kylie Carrington (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) reached 40 assists in a match for the fourth time this season as she handed out 42 and posted 13 digs. Classmate
Amber Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) finished second on the team with 16 digs to go along with seven kills and a pair of blocks.
Senior
Brittany McVearry (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) led FSU with a career-high 23 digs while fellow senior
Jamie Thomas (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) had 15 digs, seven kills, two blocks, one ace and one assist.
The Bobcats host both CAC foe Salisbury and former AMCC rival Penn State Behrend this Saturday at Bobcat Arena in a tri-match. FSU opens competition on Saturday morning when it plays Salisbury at 11:00 am.
