WASHINGTON, Pa. - A second half goal from Mike Pappas propelled Washington & Jefferson past Frostburg State, 1-0, in men's soccer action Saturday afternoon.
Pappas chipped in a loose ball from 10 yards out in the 57th minute with what proved to be the game-winner. The Bobcats (2-4-1) had their best scoring opportunity right after the goal, as
Shawn Baker (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) and
Sergio Vargas (San Jose, Costa Rica) each had a shot on goal within three minutes of Pappas' tally. Each Bobcat, however, was turned away by Presidents' keeper Brandon Kern.
Frostburg State senior goalkeeper
Stephen Cavallo (Charlotte, N.C./East Lincoln) made a season-high 11 saves in the loss, including seven in the second half. Sophomore forward
Dillon Muise (Germantown, Md./Clarksburg) led the Bobcats with two shots, including one on goal.
The Bobcats return home Tuesday night at 7:00 p.m. to host Hood in a Capital Athletic Conference contest.
