FROSTBURG, Md. - The No. 3 ranked Wesley College Wolverines racked up 482 yards of offense and scored a pair of touchdowns in each of the first three quarters en route to a 47-0 Atlantic Central Football Conference victory over Frostburg State, Saturday afternoon.
Box Score
WC (2-0) quarterback Justin Sottilare threw for 254 yards and four touchdowns and tailback Brandon Wright added 148 yards and two scores on 12 carries to power Wesley to their 18th-straigt conference victory.
FSU senior tailback
Anton Wade (Baltimore, Md./Patterson) finished the day with 69 yards on 16 carries while Bobcat junior
Josh Volpe (Germantown, Md./Northwest) threw for 42 yards on eight completions. Freshman
Zach Zile (Woodbine, Md./Century) led all Bobcat players with 30 yards on three receptions.
FSU sophomore
Josh Jackson (Walkersville, Md. / Frederick) returned the opening kickoff 79 yards to the Wesley six yardline to put the Bobcats (0-2) in business early on. Senior
Anthony King (Germantown, Md./Northwest) carried the ball to the Wolverine three, but two incompletions stalled the offense and the ensuing field goal attempt was blocked by Wesley. However, the Bobcats
Rashad James (Washington, Md./Anacostia) intercepted Sottilare three plays later at the FSU 39 to give the hosts the ball inside Wesley territory. FSU picked up nine yards on first and second, but on a 3-and-1, Volpe was stopped for no gain and the Bobcats were forced to punt.
The Wesley offense got going on the ensuing drive as Wright broke off a 74-yard touchdown run on the first play for a 7-0 lead. Two drives later, Wesley recovered a blocked punt at the Bobcat 25 and had to settle for a Dan Tryon 31-yard field goal.
Sottilare connected with Sean McAndrew for a 14-yard touchdown late in the first as Wesley began to slowly add points to the scoreboard. Sottilare tossed two more touchdowns late in the second, both to Ellis Krout (38 and 10 yards), as the Wolverines led 30-0 at halftime.
A 44-yard kickoff return put WC in Frostburg State territory to begin the third quarter and Wright scored his second touchown from 12 yards out just over two min-ute into the second half for a 37-0 lead.
Gene Knight found the endzone from 36 yards out midway through the third quarter for Wesley's final touchdown and Tryon kicked a 32-yard field goal in the fourth for the 47-0 win.
