NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Frostburg State University surrendered seven runs in the top of the first inning and was eventually eliminated by top seeded Salisbury 8-2 in the NCAA Softball Regional Tournament, Saturday morning.

FSU’s season comes to a close with a school record 30-16 mark after their first-ever trip to the NCAA Tournament. SU (25-3) advances in the regional to face the winner of third seeded Susquehana (33-12) and fifth seeded Greensboro (28-14-1) later this afternoon at 4:00 pm.
The Sea Gulls jumped out to an early 7-0 lead in the top of first inning. Jen Cahill and Amanda DeMoine each drove in two runs as Salisbury took control early on.
FSU plated two runs in the bottom of second to cut into the Salisbury lead. Freshman
Taylor Vandegrift (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) got the inning going with an infield single and she scored when the next batter, senior
Lindsay Freitag (Baltimore, Md./Parkville), tripled to the gap in right center. Junior
Megan Henne (Pasadena, Md./Northeast) then singled to left field scoring Freitag as the scoreboard read 7-2.
The Sea Gulls extended their lead to 8-2 with a single run in the top of the third.
From there, both pitchers settled in and allowed a combined four hits over the final 4.5 innings.
Sophomore starter
Megan Magee (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Holy Spirit) suffered the loss after allowing three of the seven first-inning runs. Henne came on in relief and pitched 6.2 innings for the Bobcats allowing five runs on nine hits.
Freitag led FSU at the plate finishing 1-for-2 with an RBI and a run scored while Henne was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
