Men's Soccer Ties St. Mary's (Md.), 2-2

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The Frostburg State men's soccer team managed to earn a 2-2 tie at St. Mary's (Md.) on Saturday afternoon despite being outshot, 30-11, by the Seahawks.

The Bobcats (4-7-3, 1-2-3) attempted just four shots in the first half but made the most of them with a pair of goals. Sophomore Shawn Baker (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) netted his fourth of the season at 14:45 with a blast from 35 yards out that was helped by the wind and sailed over the keeper.

Less than three minutes later, FSU was fouled in the 18-yard box and was awarded a penalty kick. Junior Michael Bistany (Greenbelt, Md./Dematha Catholic) converted on the team’s first PK of the season and the visitors moved ahead 2-0.

The Bobcats' defense also did its part holding St. Mary’s scoreless despite 10 first half shots. FSU keeper Stephen Cavallo (Charlotte, N.C./East Lincoln) made two saves in the opening stanza, and five for the match.

Just over 10 minutes into the half, the Seahawks began a comeback with a goal from Kevin Seeger. He headed the ball in off a pass from Brian Payne. In the 60th minute, Payne netted a goal to bring St. Mary’s even.

The Seahawks continued to pressure Frostburg State and Cavallo for the remainder for the contest. St. Mary’s held the advantage in shots in the second half, 13-4, and outshot the Bobcats, 7-3, in the two overtimes. With just 11 seconds to play, Seahawk Keith Hines hit the post on a header. The ball didn't go in, and FSU escaped with its third tie in conference play.

Frostburg State returns to action at home Tuesday night when it faces Penn State Altoona at 7 p.m.
