RADNOR, Pa. - The Frostburg State men's soccer team had its first loss of the 2009 season as it dropped its game to Alvernia University, 2-0, on day one of the Cabrini Tournament.

The game remained scoreless in the first half until the 21:44 mark when Eric Franks netted a goal off a throw in from Brice Stine to give AU (2-0) a 1-0 advantage over FSU (1-1), which it carried into the break.
With less than 20 minutes left in regulation, Kyle Martyn scored on a free position kick to put the Crusaders in a two-point lead over the Bobcats, 2-0. Neither team was able to score a goal in the remaining minutes of the game as Alvernia defeated Frostburg Sate with a score of 2-0.
Leading the Bobcats in shots was senior
Sean Jones (Pasadena, Md./Severna Park) with four while junior
Ricky Marchant (Rockville, Md./Walter Johnson) and freshman
Shawn Baker (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) each chipped in two.
Junior FSU goalkeeper
Stephen Cavallo (Charlotte, N.C./East Lincoln (Warren Wilson)) recorded six saves in the loss and AU goalie Drew Gilbert stopped six in the win.
Despite the loss, Frostburg State led Alvernia in both shots (14-12) and corner kicks (6-3).
FSU will play NYU-Polytechnic for day two of the Cabrini Tournament tomorrow September 5 at 3:00 pm.
