PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The Frostburg State Volleyball team dropped its first two matches against Point Park, 3-1, and Case Western, 3-1, on day one of the Carnegie Mellon Crossover Tournament, Friday.
In game one, Point Park (10-3) defeated Frostburg State (10-3) with game scores of 23-25, 25-19, 25-19 and 25-20.
Senior
Brooke Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) led the Bobcats with 12 kills, 13 digs and three blocks. Sophomore
Kylie Carrington (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) handed out 30 assists against Point Park. Juniors
Jamie Thomas (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) and
Sarah Stephens (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) helped fill out the box score for the Bobcats. Thomas put up eight kills, two service aces and seven digs while Stephens added nine kills and nine digs.
Senior
Chelsea Wassell (Westernport, Md./Southern Garrett) and sophomore
Sabrina Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) each helped FSU defense with three blocks each. Sophomore
Amber Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) had one service ace and 11 digs in the loss for Frostburg State.
In game two, the Bobcats fell to Case Western (9-2) 3-1 with game scores of 25-22, 21-25, 25-14 and 25-18.
Brooke Winterling led FSU with 17 kills, two service aces, two blocks and seven digs while Stephens added 13 kills and 7 digs. Thomas put up nine kills, one service ace, one block and 13 digs for the Bobcats against Case Western. Wassell and Amber Winterling rounded out the box score for FSU. Wassell had four kills and one block while Amber Winterling posted two service aces and 16 digs.
Carrington gave the Bobcats two kills, one block, four digs and 42 assits in the match.
The Bobcats are back on the court tomorrow September 19 against Westminster at 10:00 am for day two of the Carnegie Mellon Crossover Tournament.
