The Mounties (19-8, 9-2) raced out to a 10-0 lead in game one and held on for the victory as the Bobcats (20-9, 9-4) brought the score to within three, 11-8. In the second game, Mt. Aloysius scored the game-winning run in the top of the ninth to earn the victory.

Sophomore Brooke Tapman (Pocomoke, Md./Pocomoke) homored three times on the afternoon for the Bobcats including two in game one. With FSU trailing 10-0 heading into the bottom half of the third, Tapman and junior Samantha Quirin (Lovettsville, Va./Loudoun Valley) hit back-to-back solo homeruns to put the hosts on the board.

After holding the Mounties scoreless in the fourth, FSU struck again in the bottom of the frame with five runs to cut the score to 10-7. Junior Lindsay Freitag (Baltimore, Md./Parkville) started the scoring when she crossed the plate on an error. Tapman had an RBI ground out and Quirin scored on error as well before senior Kaitlyn Wagner (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) capped the inning with a two-run single through the left side.

The teams exchanged single runs in the fifth. MTA scored on an error while Tapman hit a solo homerun over the center field fence as the scoreboard showed 11-8. The visitors added their final run in the seventh off an RBI ground out from O'Neil.

Jess Walters earned the win on the mound for the Mounties after allowing seven runs (four earned) on nine hits in 4.0 innings. Junior Katelyn Coffey (Middletown, Md./Middletown) suffered the loss after allowing eight earned runs in 7.0 innings.

Tapman finished the opener 2-for-3 with three RBIs and two runs scored.

In game two, Tapman's third homer knotted the score at two in the eighth inning but Amy Miller scored the game-winning run in the bottom of the ninth on a close play at the plate as the Mounties escaped 3-2.

The first seven innings of the contest didn't produce much action offensively as both squads combined for just six hits. However, in the top of the eighth, O'Neil singled home the game's first two runs as MTA surged ahead 2-0.

Tapman answered for FSU in the bottom of the inning. With Bobcat runners on second and third, Mt. Aloysius picked up its only double play of the series on a line out that allowed it to get the lead runner at third. Tapman then stepped to the plate and pelted her 13th homerun of the season over the fence scoring Freitag to tie the game at 2-2.

However, in the ninth Carrie Shevok grounded out to third base and the ensuing throw to the plate wasn't in time allowing Miller to score the game winner.

Freshman starter Megan Magee (Egg Harbor City, N.J./Holy Spirit) endured just her second loss of the season (12-2) allowing one earned run on three hits while striking out seven. Shevock earned the win for MTA, scattering six hits and allowing two runs.

Tapman finished the afternoon 4-for-6 with five RBIs, three runs and three homers.

Frostburg State returns to the field on Saturday when it travels to AMCC opponent Medaille at 1:00 pm.
