Swimming Splits with Wheeling Jesuit and Fairmont State

FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State men's and women's swimming teams split their non-conference meets this weekend falling to Wheeling Jesuit on Friday evening and defeating Fairmont State Saturday afternoon.

Against WJU, the men fell by scores of 117-77 while the women were defeated 118-65. Both the men (113-88) and women (101-59) squads picked up wins against Fairmont State.

Sophomore Arielle Harding (Damascus, Md./Good Counsel) had the only win for the Bobcats against the Cardinals. She took first in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:23.93.

Picking up two individual second-place finishes for the FSU women against Wheeling Jesuit were senior Thirza Roberto (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) and freshman Samantha Mulvey (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake). Roberto took second place in the 100-yard backstroke (1:05.45) and 200-yard freestyle (2:08.57) while Mulvey captured a second-place finish in the 50-yard freestyle (27.78) and 100-yard freestyle (1:00.50)

On the men's side against Wheeling Jesuit, freshman Trevor Kozlow (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) finished second-place in the 200-yard individual medley (2:10.25) and third in the 100-yard backstroke (1:01.38).

Junior Bill Ford (Towson, Md./Calvert Hall) also captured a second-place finish against WJU in the 1,000-yard freestyle with a time of 11:03.39.

The men's and women's swimming squad picked up 12 indiviudal first-place finishes in their defeat of Fairmont State.

Senior Jack Hudson (Gaithersburg, Md./Gaithersburg) led the men's team with two first-place finishes against Fairmont State. He captured first in the 1,650-yard freestyle (18:47.67) and 500-yard freestyle (5:25.41) while finishing third in the 200-yard butterfly (2:32.15).

Kozlow placed first in the 400-yard individual medley (4:43.78) while freshman Caleb Stair (Hyndman, Pa./Hyndman) finished first in the 200-yard butterfly (2:17.69) and 200-yard breatstroke (2:28.79). Kozlow also captured second place in the 200-yard backstroke, touching the wall with a time of 2:14.82.

In the 400-yard medley relay, Kozlow and Stair were joined by junior Sean Samakow (Huntingtown, Md./Huntingtown) and freshman Reed Brown (Silver Spring, Md./Sherwood) to place first with a time of 4:01.02.

Freshman Alix Bunten (Herndon, Va./Herndon) led the Frostburg State women's squad against Fairmont State with two individual wins on the day. She captured first in the 200-yard butterfly (2:39.90) and 500-yard freestyle (5:53.26), while finishing second in the 1,650-yard freestyle (21:45.26).

In the 200-yard freestyle, Roberto placed first with a time of 2:13.25 while Harding touched the wall with a time of 5:14.60 to take first-place in the 400-yard individual medley.

Rounding out the individual first-place finishes for the Bobcats was Mulvey, who finished first in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 59.36.

In the 400-yard individual medley relay, Roberto, Harding, Bunten and Mulvey joined together to capture first-place with a time of 4:51.53.

The Bobcats are back in the pool at home on November 21st against Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference opponent Penn State Behrend for a 2:00 pm matchup.
