Box Score

The Bobcats (0-5, 0-1) scored touchdowns on three of five second half possessions, after trailing 34-0 at halftime. The FSU defense did its part as well in the second half, forcing two Wolverine turnovers. Frostburg State outgained the high powered Wesley offense in the second half 246-158, including a 240-89 edge through the air.

Frostburg State scored on its second drive of the third quarter, taking advantage of a Wesley fumble, with a three-play 44-yard drive. Volpe completed two passes on the drive, including a 47-yard scoring toss to senior receiver Makiha Cooper (Baltimore, Md./Forest Park).

On their next possession, the Bobcats put together a 14-play 85-yard scoring drive as they chipped into the Wesley (5-0, 1-0) lead, 37-13. Volpe completed four passes for 57 yards, including a 12-yard touchdown pass to senior Ali Konteh (Hyattsville, Md./Northwestern Hyattsville).

After a sophomore Jim Lohr (Bowie, Md./Archbishop Spalding) interception, Konteh added his second touchdown of the contest on FSU's third-straight scoring drive. The Bobcats moved 67 yards in just four plays, thanks to a 64-yard reception from Volpe to Cooper to move the ball to the Wesley three. Three plays later, Volpe connected with Konteh for a 10-yard touchdown.

Volpe finished the contest with 288 yards and three touchdowns on 19-of-35 pass attempts. Cooper led all players with 138 receiving yards on five receptions and a touchdown. It's the third 100-yard game of the season for Cooper. Junior tailback Anthony King (Germantown, Md./Northwest) ran for 61 yards on 16 carries.

The first half was a different story as Wesley (5-0, 1-0) scored touchdowns on five of seven drives and totaled 395 yards in offense as it raced out a 34-0 halftime lead. Shane McSweeny threw for 277 yards and five touchdowns in the opening half, including touchdown passes to four different receivers. The Wolverines also ran for 117 yards on 15 carries in the first half, led by McSweeny with 39 yards on four rushing attempts.

Wesley capped the game scoring as Ellis Krout caught his third touchdown of the afternoon with just 1:54 left in the fourth.

The FSU defense was led by sophomore defensive back Rashad James (Washington, D.C./Anacostia) with 12 tackles, followed by sophomore Travis Blair (Upper Marlboro, Md./Oxon Hill) with 10 tackles, two for loss and two forced fumbles.

Frostburg State returns home next weekend as it hosts Randolph-Macon for the first of three-consecutive home contests at Bobcat Stadium.
