Letourneau Wins 100th, Winterling Sets Career Record for Kills in 3-0 Sweep of Franciscan

FROSTBURG, Md. - Senior Brooke Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) set the career kills record and Head Coach Peter Letourneau won his 100th match at Frostburg State as it swept past Franciscan, 3-0, Wednesday evening. FSU took the match 25-16, 25-13 and 25-12.

In the third game, Winterling smashed her 14th kill of the match to give her 2,020 for her four-year career, surpassing the previous mark of 2,019 held by Shannon Rexrode (1996-99). Winterling finished the night with 15 kills, her final attempt handed the Bobcats their 25th point in a 25-12 game three victory.

The three-set win handed the Bobcats (20-4, 5-0) their 12th shutout of the year and Head Coach Peter Letourneau his 100th win at the helm of the FSU program. He is currently tied for the most victories all-time and will attempt to set the record as the Bobcats travel to D'Youville (1:00pm) this Saturday.

After falling behind the Barons (8-11, 1-5) 3-1 in game one, Frostburg State surged to a 14-5 lead behind a 13-2 run. The Bobcats later used a 7-1 run to take control of the contest.

FSU fell behind again in game two, this time Franciscan opened the game with an 8-3 lead. However, Frostbrg State again rebounded with a 9-0 run for a 12-8 lead. The hosts closed out the second game on a 13-2 run for the victory.

The Bobcats wasted little time in game three, opening up an 11-2 lead. FSU later extended its lead to 17-5 before collecting a 6-3 run to close out the game for the match win.

Junior Sarah Stephens (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) finished with eight kills and 10 digs and classmate Jamie Thomas (Laurel, Md./Reservoir) posted four kills and 11 digs. Sophomore setter Kylie Carrington (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) had 31 assists and sophomore Amber Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) had nine digs.
