Volleyball Splits on Day Two of the FSU Quad Match; Winterling Reaches 2,000 Kills

FROSTBURG, Md. - The Frostburg State women's volleyball team earned a split on day two of the FSU quad match tournament with a 3-1 defeat of Neumann and a 3-2 loss to Lebanon Valley, Saturday.

The Bobcats, who had their nine-match winning streak come to a close with the loss to LVC, sit at 19-4 overall on the season.

Senior Brooke Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) posted a combined 33 kills in both matches and surpassed the 2,000-career mark on the afternoon. The three-time All-AMCC selection, needs just 11 to surpass FSU's all-time career kills record of 2,019 set by Shannon Rexrode (1996-99).

Junior Sarah Stephens (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) also turned in an excellent performance with 40 kills and 26 digs over both matches.

Together, Winterling and Stephens were selected to the All-Tournament team, including Emily Hopkins (LVC), Emily Perkins (LVC), Erika Dirnagl (BC), Katie Baker (BC) and Jerrae Robinson (NU).

Frostburg State opened tournament play with a 3-1 over Neumann (6-18). The Bobcats posted scores of 25-13, 25-16, 24-26 and 25-18.

Brooke Winterling posted 16 kills, six digs and six service aces while senior Lacie Johnson (Hagerstown, Md./Williamsport) had 29 assists. Stephens recorded 16 kills and 10 digs.

In the second match, Lebanon Valley (22-1) defeated FSU (19-4) with game scores of 25-27, 25-21, 25-18, 19-25 and 16-14.

Leading the Bobcats was Stephens with 24 kills and 16 digs. Brooke Winterling posted 17 kills, 16 digs and four blocks. Sophomore Kylie Carrington (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock) handed out 51 assists while senior Chelsea Wassell (Westernport, Md./Southern Garrett) had seven blocks. Thomas recorded 22 digs and six kills in the loss for the Bobcats.

Joelle Synder had 16 kills, two solo blocks and three assist blocks for the Dutchman while Emily Perkins posted 56 assists in the win.

In neutral site competition, LVC defeated Bridgewater, 3-0, with game scores of 25-12, 25-17 and 25-13. Bridgewater won against Neumann University, 3-2, with scores of 25-27, 27-25, 25-27, 25-11 and 15-6.

The Bobcats is back on the court against AMCC opponent Franciscan University on October 14 at 7:00 pm.
